Things I Want to Buy

Posted on 30 March 2010 by Jason Grimme

For those who don’t know me (mostly everybody who may read this), I am close to graduating from college, getting a full time job, and experiencing a decent amount of money for the first time.  I have a rather unusual list of things that I’d like to acquire within my first few months.

I doubt that few people care about what I actually want, but this is my blog so I shall blog about this; mostly as a way for me to keep track of things.

KitchenAid Mixer

While this would be top amongst few males “Most Wanted” list, it is on mine.  I’m a guy who can appreciate a fine kitchen and this monster of a device signifies one.  These tools can do everything from mixing dough for a birthday cake to stuffing sausages and making pasta.  This is a true start to any true kitchen.

Zojirushi Rice Cooker

I discovered these rice cookers in Japan and was first impressed by the cute elephant logo.  Once I looked at the price tag I realized these are no ordinary rice cookers.  These cost $200 but also keep rice warm for days.  It is very important to buy the one of the most quality: Stainless steel, Induction heating, and Neuro-Fuzzy logic.  They have different settings for different types of rice, allowing you to effortlessly cook white, brown, and sushi rice.  They even have options to make rice porridge and some can make birthday cakes.  I plan on eating a lot of rice.

Sushi Mat

In regards to eating a lot of rice, one way I plan on doing that is by making sushi.  While I’ve never made it before, it seems very fun and like it would be a great snack to take to work.  It is also very nutritious.

I already have a set of knives that are extremely sharp, so other than that all I need is a bamboo mat for rolling said sushi.  Perhaps a bamboo cutting board as well.

Dyson Vacuum Cleaner

This one I’m not so positive about.  To continue my streak of premium products I would like a Dyson vacuum cleaner.  These monsters are notorious for getting dirt out of carpet that you never knew was there.  Supposedly they work great and a few friends have recommended them.  However, a normal vacuum cleaner might get the job done just as much as it needs to and otherwise will sit inside a dark closet; unseen by others.  Perhaps it would be more practical to get a $100 vacuum.

Quad Core Computer + Television

With the improvements of processors, it is no longer necessary to buy multiple computers.  It is much easier install Linux with VMWare and designate a virtual machine to each core.  Provided the right network card you can give each one an IP address as well.

I would like to get a quad core PC and keep it in my living room with LCD television of decent size.  I will use the PC as a media center, where I can stream movies from over my network, or connect to Hulu and other similar services to watch television shows.  No Cable for me, that is for suckers.
With the other cores, I’d like to set up a public access point that will run Apache and SSH so that I can access my home network from elsewhere in the world.  It would also be nice to setup an FTP server simply to store files, but that might be somewhat unnecessary.  We’ll see.

Magic Hat #9 Beer

Magic Hat #9

I really enjoy beer.  Good beer.  And while I have a few other favorite types of beer like Stone’s IPA, I can drink Magic Hat’s #9 all day.  The subtle taste of apricot is simply amazing and truly is a fantastic beer.  While this beer only runs about $14 per twelve pack and really isn’t that expensive, I am currently living on a tight budget and simply can’t afford to get it.  Soon :)
