The Great Wave off Kanagawa

Posted on 12 June 2009 by Jason Grimme

One of my favorite paintings is “The Great Wave off Kanagawa” by Katsushika Hokusai.  It from a series of woodblock prints/paintings featuring Mt. Fuji  print from the mid 1800s.
A few years ago I re-created the painting into vector format so that I could make it into a nice desktop background… It took about a month but it turned out great.
I’ve had this section of wood in my apartment for a few months now to make my table larger for certain events.  After pondering how to design it since I bought it, I decided to paint The Great Wave painting on it.
I spent a few late nights painting this, and am very satisfied with the results.  It will make both a great picture and table replacement.
